Safer Running – Gwent Police Initiative
Enhancing safety and confidence for women and girls running outdoors in the evenings.
Launched in February 2025, the Safer Running initiative by Gwent Police aims to provide advice and reassurance to women and girls who run outdoors during evening hours. In collaboration with Welsh Athletics, the initiative has engaged with over 100 female members of local running clubs to address safety concerns and promote confidence among female runners.
What you should know:
The initiative mainly involves direct engagement with female runners through local clubs and groups to discuss safety concerns and provide practical advice.
Gwent Police and Welsh Athletics are leading the initiative, working closely with local running communities.
How it improves safety: By offering tailored advice and fostering open communication, the initiative seeks to empower female runners with knowledge and strategies to feel safer while running in the evenings.
