Liberation Trail 2027
Normandy, France · 21–23 May
Women running further, together.
16 women, 3 days, different goals, one team.
Join us
Join Run Her Way for a three-day endurance challenge along the historic D-Day coastline of Normandy, with the opportunity to take on your first trail, ultra and multistage running event as part of a fully supported team.
Choose your challenge, from 70 km across three days to the full 115 km, with training, coaching and a community behind you.
Together, we'll raise funds for Run Her Way's mission to make running more equitable, accessible and safe for women and girls.
Opening up endurance running to more women
Our goal is simple: more women and girls start running, keep running and experience all that the sport brings.
The Liberation Trail is one way we put our mission into practice. We want more women to have the opportunity to take on challenges they might never have considered possible.
In 2026, we brought 14 women to the start line. For many, it was their first trail event, marathon distance or ultra. They each took on one or more stages over 6 days, three countries and 250 km.
We're building on that in 2027, bringing women together for a shared three-day experience, all in France along the beautiful and historic D-Day beaches.
“51 km was a big first, and that feels really cool. There's no way I would have done it without Run Her Way and that's very special.” — Isabela, 2026

Run for Run Her Way
As part of the Liberation Trail team, each participant commits to raising €1,000 to support Run Her Way's work to make running more equitable, accessible and safe for women and girls. We'll support you with fundraising ideas and tools along the way.
The team's fundraising directly supports Run Her Way's work: gathering women's experiences of running, using this as evidence to engage with cities to improve running environments, training allies across the running community, and creating more opportunities for women to participate.
Together, we're addressing the barriers that limit women's participation in running.
Liberation Trail is both an opportunity to take on a personal challenge and a way to help more women experience what running can offer.
FAQs
What are my options for participating?
You can choose between two three-day challenges:
115 km: The full distance across three stages.
70 km: Shorter stages across the same three days.
There's flexibility along the way, too. You can adjust your distance or skip a stage if you need to. The goal is to take on a challenge that's right for you, with the support of the team throughout.
What running experience do I need?
You don't need to have completed a trail race, ultra or multistage event before. In fact, we particularly welcome women taking on one of these challenges for the first time. You should already be running regularly and be willing to prepare for your chosen distance. We'll provide coaching and guidance to help you get ready.
What kit do I need?
You'll need suitable trail running shoes, a hydration pack and the mandatory equipment specified by the Liberation Trail organizers. For camping, you'll also need to bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping mat and pillow. Run Her Way will provide the tent. We'll share a full packing list and guidance on kit well ahead of the event.
Do I need to be there for the whole weekend?
For the best experience, we recommend arriving on Thursday 20 May in the evening. Accommodation will be available from Thursday night. Friday's visits to historical sites are entirely optional, with the first running stage taking place that evening. Stages two and three follow on Saturday and Sunday. If you're travelling back to the Netherlands with the team, we'll depart on Monday morning, 24 May. You're also welcome to arrange your own travel around your schedule. We recognize this is a significant time commitment, but from our experience, having time to enjoy the event, take in the historic sites, recover from your efforts and celebrate your achievements together is a big part of what makes it special.
Can I bring my family?
Yes! Families are welcome to come along and support you. They'll need to arrange and pay for their own accommodation at Ferme Hay Day, as well as their travel and meals.
What if I need to cancel?
We understand that circumstances can change. If you need to withdraw, please let us know as early as possible so we can discuss your options. As places are limited, cancellation conditions apply and will be shared before you confirm your place.
