Take Back the Track is a grassroots movement out of Australia dedicated to making women and gender diverse runners feel less alone, validated, and fostering a greater sense of belonging and safety when running.
What you should know:
Founded in 2025 by runner and activist Sissy Austin, who was the victim of a violent attack while running.
The initiative is working to develop a growing movement that recognizes the unacceptable experience of women and gender-diverse runners and fights for all runners to feel a sense of freedom and happiness when running.
Take Back the Track utilizes the power of storytelling to raise awareness to the violence and harassment experienced by women and gender-diverse runners.
They organize an annual National Take Back the Track Day in February. The first event took place in 2025.
